University of Akron School of Law students with faculty supervision provide free patent filing assistance in Columbus

The University of Akron School of Law Trademark Clinic is run by law students under the supervision of faculty members. Students in the clinic assist clients with trademark searches and prepare applications for registration at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. They also answer office actions and draft contracts for clients. The clinic is one of only a few in the nation where law students are permitted to prosecute trademark applications.

University of Akron School of Law students with faculty supervision provide free legal services in Iowa

Students from the University of Akron School of Law are working to help low-income clients who need assistance with legal matters. They are supervised by faculty members. The students conduct interviews, investigate cases, and prepare them for court. They also appear on behalf of their clients at the court hearing under the supervision of the clinic staff attorney.

Under the Faculty Director’s discretion, students with community service hours may earn credit for the hours they spend helping in their community. In making a decision, the Faculty Director must consider the educational value of the community service and consult with the Student Community and Pro Bono Publico Service Coordinator.

The Access to Justice Initiative is grateful to law schools that encourage a strong public service ethic in their students. They are committed to ensuring that all Americans have equal access to justice. By providing free legal services in their communities, students are able to improve the quality of life for low-income residents.
